The Baub Show with Bob Merrick

Elaine Hendrix

August 2, 2010- In Hollywood ELAINE HENDRIX has been called an “actor’s actor”, a “triple-threat”, a “guy’s girl”, and renowned Variety columnist Army Archerd likened her to Carol Lombard. Anyone who has the joy of seeing her work most certainly joins The Houston Chronicle in proclaiming, “Elaine Hendrix is excellent!...Get that girl a sit-com!”

Fans around the world know her for such popular and diverse projects as Disney’s THE PARENT TRAP, the cult phenomenon WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW?! and the critically acclaimed CBS series JOAN OF ARCADIA, she has even been immortalized as 4 different collectable Happy Meal toys created for her character ‘G2’ from Disney's INSPECTOR GADGET 2.

She has starred opposite Will Farrel in SNL’s SUPERSTAR, Lisa Kudrow in Touchstone’s ROMY & MICHELE’S HIGH SCHOOL REUNION, Aaron Ekhart in MGM’s MOLLY, and Josh Hartnet in FOX’s HERE ON EARTH. Some of her independent features include starring with Alan Cumming in BAM BAM AND CELESTE, Patrick Warburton in ROCK SLYDE, Beth Grant in DEAR LEMON LIMA, and Teri Polo in THE BEACON. Some of her television appearances include CASTLE, THE MENTALIST, CRIMINAL MINDS, CSI, CSI MIAMI, ER, GHOST WHISPERER, and TV movies such as MR. ST. NICK opposite Kelsey Grammar, JANE DOE-EYE OF THE BEHOLDER opposite Lea Thompson, and TWO SISTERS for which Margaret Cho wrote a role especially for Elaine.

As a producer, Elaine has produced live events for theatre, dance concerts, fashion magazines, and recently, FOX’s DVD/CD music festival for WHAT THE BLEEP?! DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE. She was on the producing teams of the award-winning films COFFEE DATE and TRU LOVED, the short films TWISTED FAITH which premiered at the Cannes Festival “Short Corner,” the ensemble comedy FRIENDS OF DOROTHY, and THE CLOGGERS (also her directorial debut), and the feature GOOD INTENTIONS in which she also stars opposite Luke Perry and LeAnn Rimes, .

Elaine’s greatest passion is her work on behalf of the humane treatment of animals. She is on the Board of Directors for the international organization IN DEFENSE OF ANIMALS, works with local rescue groups throughout CA, TN and GA, and is an honorary committee member of the GENESIS AWARDS presented by The Humane Society of the United States. Other humanitarian appearances include her annual performance in WHAT A PAIR: a night of Broadway duets benefiting the John Wayne Cancer Institute, a national PSA campaign for the ACLU, and HERE! TV’s 11th Annual RIBBON OF HOPE AWARDS.

Elaine herself has been presented with numerous awards and honors such as a Telly Award for THE HIGHLY TOXIC BEAUTY QUEEN, “Best Actress” (Duke city Shootout Festival) for the short film FOOD FOR THOUGHT, “Best Actress” (Baja International Film Festival) for the feature DOWN THE PCH, she was honored by the Spiritual Cinema Circle for her work in WHAT THE BLEEP, named “Grand Marshall” of the Atlanta Christmas Parade along with one of Atlanta Magazine’s “Top 20 Atlantans”, given the Key to the City of Tarrent, Alabama, and a Circle of Heroes award for her humanitarian efforts.

All of this is just the tip of the iceberg considering she is also an accomplished singer/songwriter and published author. It’s no wonder, then, that legendary film critic Roger Ebert said, “She earns her stripes.”

Originally hailing from the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee, Elaine now lives in Los Angeles with her rescued companions: canines Tiloc and Rossmore, and felines Goodie Cornbread and Kimbo. She has particular affinities for vanilla ice cream, STAR WARS, Elvis, and Target, and believes it is important to maintain a healthy balance of work, play, spirituality and shopping.

Dave Holmes

July 19, 2010- At the turn of the millenium, NSYNC and Backstreet Boys were at the top of the pop culture food chain and reporting on it all from the front row was MTV VJ, Dave Holmes. On the other side of the aisle was The Baub Show's host and a friend of the band, Bob Merrick. What was uncanny was how the two resembled each other, causing fans to often mistake Merrick as the popular MTV host (a fact that was featured prominently on the original planetbaub site with side by side comparisons on a page entitled, "I am not Dave Holmes"). On tonight's show, Bob and Dave finally meet and chat for the very first time and catch up with Dave's latest adventures, including his new blog, "My Year Of Everything", where he is spending a year reading books by people who took a year off to do something and then writing his own book about it!

Co-hosting tonight will be Sherry Layne, who is premiering her brand new Baub Show exclusive web series, "Quantum Sleep" and another new regular series from Eric Shane!

DAVE HOLMES

No one likes to lose a contest, but it’s especially embarrassing when it’s on national television. Lucky for Dave Holmes, the runner-up in MTV’s first Wanna Be A VJ contest in 1998, sometimes fate fixes it all in the end. Even though he wasn’t selected as a VJ through the contest, Holmes did end up with a gig at MTV. He was first set to host a short-lived program titled “I Spy Video” before he took on the popular “Say What? Karaoke.” He also appeared on the channel’s “120 Minutes” as well as a VJ introducing “Spanking New” videos and other hot tunes.

But before hitting the small screen, Holmes, 36, studied right here in Worcester. He attended the College of the Holy Cross, where he worked for the campus radio station ~ surely a prelude to his later work and reputation as a pop-culture sage with an encyclopedic knowledge of music

Post-MTV, Holmes tried his hand at acting. You can catch him as a reporter in the first “Fantastic Four” film as well as Leslie Frost on a few episodes of “Reno 911!” But it’s hosting that Holmes, with his good-natured style, does best: he did a brief stint as the MC for “Fire Me ... Please” on CBS as well as some spots for VH1’s “Best Week Ever” and specials on E!. He also co-hosts Court TV’s “Saturday Night Solution” shows and FX’s DVD on TV. Most recently, on July 7, he co-hosted the Live Earth concert coverage on July 7 for Bravo.

It doesn’t get much bigger than that, hosting a history-making concert that spans seven continents. So with a pretty impressive Hollywood resume ~ especially for someone who started as an unknown in an MTV contest ~ Holmes proves that sometimes losing can bring a bigger prize than winning. written by Bobby Hankinson
