Okay, maybe these aren’t quite the lyrics to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” but read on and you’ll realize they should have been.

The spirit world took over The Baub Show intro! (Sorry, Shytown, but you try saying no to Freddy Krueger, Young Frankenstein, and–scariest of all–Bette Midler [Bob is going to kill me for that joke])

Bob welcomed me back to the show after last week’s clowning hiatus. I could tell he was still mad at me though, since he made me fight Ghostface for my co-host chair. But being a lover, not a fighter…Haunting the studio with us was food lover/podcaster/beer connoisseur Phil Nigash! As Bob and I stuffed our faces with the delicious goodies he brought us–Breakfast Cereal Flan, home cured ham, and homemade Beef Jerky (see recipes below)–we talked about getting men cooking, coming to terms with what it means to be male, our final meals on Earth, why horror movies have ruined going to the bathroom, and creepy photos on the Queen Mary (really get those hairs on the back of your neck rising by checking out the complete Queen Mary story here on Phil’s podcast).

To wash it all down, Phil came up with quite the witches’ brew tasting menu to keep our Ghostface glasses full.

“Lucifer” from Brouwerij Het Anker — Belgian Strong Ale — 8.00% ABV
“White Rascal” from Avery Brewing Company — Belgian Witbier –5.60% ABV — and is far better than “Blue Moon” from Coors, which is not even in the same class.
“Punkin Ale” from Dogfish Head— 7% ABV — It’s a beer brewed with actual pumpkin, brown sugar, and spices.
“Antigoon” from Brouwerij De Musketiers — Belgian Pale Ale — 6.80% ABV — The bottle illustrates the story of Druon Antigoon, who was a mythical giant who lived in Antwerp, Belgium. The mythical Roman soldier Silvius Brabo; who was like David to Goliath – an underdog hero who cut the hand off of the giant Antigoon then tossed the severed hand in the river as Antigoon had done to many of his own victims. The Brabo fountain, in Antwerp shows Brabo throwing the severed hand of Antigoon into the Scheldt.
“Belzebuth” from Brasserie Grain d’ Orge in France — Belgian Strong Ale — 13% ABV — The great thing about this beer is the label. The demon pictured is a depiction of Beezelbub. In Christian and Biblical sources he appears as a demon and the name of one of the seven princes of Hell.

Which made it easy to toast our Favorite Things Of The Week, including a very special viewing of the World Series Game Six, Jimmy Fallon on WTF with Marc Maron, and my almost chocolate boo. P.S. When Drew Barrymore answers a phone, she gets knifed. When we answer a phone, we get Neve-d… Neve Campbell that is! Bob made her blush, revealing she was the inspiration behind The Baub Show’s focus on positivity. We chatted about her return to Los Angeles, working with orphans in South Africa, how she’d want Sydney Prescott to go out, never meeting the voice behind the iconic mask, and getting stuck in a pair of handcuffs in front of a live studio audience. Before letting her go, Ghostface insisted we play a little game with her, but we chose one with less deadly consequences.

With what was left of the beer in hand, we enjoyed a final treat from Phil and stuck our crackling tongues up to the microphones thanks to his Chocolate Covered Pop Rocks. We shared a few ways to make the world a better place and ended on a monster mashup of Vincent Price and Hocus Pocus.

CEREAL MILK FLAN (don’t knock it until you try it)

  • Mix 2 cups of cereal with 2 cups of whole milk and allow to sit for 1 full hour. Stir the cereal occasionally to make sure all of the cereal mixes with the milk.
  • After an hour, strain the cereal from the milk into another bowl or container. Wait 5 minutes for any sediment to settle to the bottom then strain again, leaving any bits of sediment behind. This is the way to ensure a clean flan with no particles.
  • Taste the milk for sweetness. If you want it sweeter, add a couple of teaspoons of sugar. Pour the milk into a saucepan and add 1/2 ounce of unflavored gelatin (you can buy this in the grocery store in the baking aisle). Stir this mixture over medium heat for 5 minutes, or until small bubbles form in the mixture. Do not let it come to a boil, and keep stirring to keep the milk from scorching on the bottom of the pan.
  • Remove from heat and pour the milk into silicone molds. You can find these in the household goods section at Target. They come in all forms, but look like this.
  • Once filled, place the mold in the refrigerator and chill overnight. When you’re ready to serve, turn the mold upside down and gently squeeze the flans out of the mold. Serve with the same cereal, ground into a powder.
